What are the 4C’s?
Carat
One carat, or about 0.2 grams, is the unit of measurement used to describe the size of a diamond. Size does matter, but a large, low-grade diamond won’t sparkle as brilliantly as one that is smaller and of higher quality. The most popular sizes for solitaire engagement rings include.25ct,.50ct,.75ct, 1.0ct, and occasionally larger sizes.
Cut
The symmetry, polish, and dimensions of the stone. The overall brilliance is determined by the perfect cut, which is based on a mathematical formula. The most reflects/fire when combined with the other 4 C’s will come from ideal and outstanding cut stones.
Clarity
Most diamonds naturally include minute trace impurities or other flaws that might detract from the stone’s inherent beauty. The most rare and expensive diamonds are those that are flawless. Transparent diamonds can range in color from colorless (D-F), nearly colorless (G-J), mild yellow (K-L), to light yellow (Z).
Colour
A well-cut stone, acting like a prism, splits light into a rainbow of colours that reflect as flashes of “fire.” Any color in the stone itself serves as a filter, so the better the diamond’s “fire,” the clearer and whiter it is.
